|Have you ever heard of the distinction called OCCURRENCE?
I was reminded of this distinction recently in a book I read called the Three Law of Performance.
The word “occurrence” is distinguished and used grammatically in a way that’s unfamiliar for most of us.
It’s distinguished in a unique way that gives us access to power, possibility, and results.
How certain things (including us) occur for us, whether consciously or unconsciously, informs our actions and thus results.
“Actions, in fact your way of being and acting, are a correlate of (response to, in-a-dance-with) the way in which what you are engaged with occurs for you.”
— Text from a slide at the Landmark Education Advanced Course in New York City
It’s similar to perception yet there exists a real-time presence, happening, and influence that’s subtly distinct from perception.
If living life powerfully as a leader who makes a massive difference occurs for you as desirable and possible, then your present being and actions will align with that occurring to create the reality of that possibility.
If profound transformation, full self-expression, and complete fulfillment occur for you as desirable and possible, then your present being and actions will align with that occurring to create the reality of that possibility.
If being UNLEASHED, totally FREE, and ALIVE occur for you as desirable and possible, then your present being and actions will align with that occurring to create the reality of that possibility.
In other words, how something occurs for you shifts how you show up and shapes your reality.
Significantly, when you transform your self-occurring, you’ll transform your life.
Which begs the question.
How can we transform how something or someone occurs for us?
What do you think it is?
If living your dreams doesn’t occur for you as possible, how could you transform that occurring so your being and actions align to create your dreams?
If living life prosperously with a profound sense of peace and fun doesn’t occur for you as possible, how could you transform that occurring so your being and actions align to create living a prosperous, peaceful, and fun life?
It’s a challenging ontological inquiry, I know.
Here’s a hint…
Certain sources believe the etymology of “abracadabra” stems from the Aramaic phrase avra kehdabra, meaning “I create as I speak.”
Transforming occurrings happens most rapidly and sustainably in two ways:
- Possibility-based conversations
- Future-based or generative language (i.e., Declarations).
One stepping stone of which to be mindful is that most conversations are NOT possibility-based conversations.
Most conversations for many are usually complaint-based, problem-focused, or judgment-oriented.
Those conversations are NOT full of life and possibility.
Those conversations do NOT make a meaningful difference in our lives.
Those conversations do NOT transform occurrings and results.
They usually describe present occurrings expressly or implicitly.
It’s important of course to first distinguish your current occurrings.
Let’s see if we can transform an occurring for you right now.
Identify one occurring, the transformation of which would make a sincere difference in your life.
Now see if you can acknowledge that you have created this occurring at some point in the past, and that it will cause a predictable, default future.
The great news is that you created — MADE UP — whichever occurring you’re considering.
We usually create occurrings as a function of our interpretation of past events or limiting beliefs we’ve read and/or heard in the past and accepted as true.
They’re not real.
Once you’ve distinguished an occurring and acknowledged that you’ve created it based on some past experience, you can now access the power to transform that occurring.
I’d highly recommend engaging in a possibility-based conversation to do so.
And start using future-based, generative language.
How would you love to transform your occurring?
Now DECLARE your new occurring into existence.
DECLARE it every day until it becomes reality.
Declarations are one of the most powerful tools I use and share.
They literally transform life.
Don’t believe me?
Consider the Declaration of Independence.
56 delegates of the Second Continental Congress DECLARED the independence of the Thirteen Colonies.
A powerful step toward the creation of the United States of America.
Did that just happen by itself?
No, they created it with generative language — namely, a DECLARATION.
We can do the same thing with our lives.
Language is powerful.
You are powerful.
Our words create our worlds.
Employ generative language.
Transform you occurrings.
Transform your life.

“Happiness is the greatest paradox in nature. It can grow in any soil, live under any conditions. It defies environment. The reason for this is that it does not come from without but from within. Whenever you see people seeking happiness outside themselves, you can be sure they have never yet found it.”
— Forman Lincicome
